”Non Slip and bounce a bit !”

Posted by Nick Riley on 19th Apr, 2016 |

Installed in the last 3 weeks this 70m x 35m Multi Use Games Area court, complete with rebound fencing and access gates, has been installed at a Blackburn Junior School. The surfacing is a ‘polymeric’ surface in blue colour, there could be some ‘Rovers’ fans in the school we think (!!), and gives non slip and cushion surface properties to the playing area.

Laid onto a tarmac surface to a depth of around 15mm this modern rubberised playing surface provides an all weather facility that is ideal for training and sports sessions within the school.

Nearly 600 tonnes of topsoil were removed in the construction of the pitch but at least the pitch can be used whatever the weather now and the school doesn’t have to wait for the field to dry out, a regular issue for Lancashire!

The polymeric surfacing is made up of small rubber granules which are mixed together in a binder and then laid out onto the macadam sub base. This combination is then screeded to leave a smooth level finish, and left to set.

Line marking, acrylic or polyurethane paint, will be added at a later date and can be paint applied or cut into the surface for a permanent addition to the court.

Funding a project like this can take time and considerable funds are required, however, think about the actual ‘use time’ that can be achieved and how funds will be saved from not having to cut the grass!

After all the bulk of playing time is in our wetter seasons and schools are off throughout the summer!
